"Never argue with idiots. They’ll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. "
Now it’s always tempting to take their arguments, deconstruct it, as any learned critic of literature would, and illustrate point by point why they are wrong. Now it sounds like a fairly logical approach. Given a clearly thought out explanation, perhaps even with a numerated bibliography, and a couple of facts and statistics thrown in, you could get yourself published in the monthly scientific journal.
But you see, idiots don’t dwell in the realm of logic. Theirs is a land of stubbornness and apathy. So much for even ground and fair play. Sometimes it’s just not worth the effort. They won’t get it anyway.
Worse, they'll invalidate your well thought of points of information with their shallow pool of knowledge. Then they'll proceed to drown you in a pool of post hoc ergo ad hoc fallacies.
Call me a snob, but logical argument really ought to be taught in schools.
You’re better off fighting them with the weapon they’re not even aware they're wielding — apathy. Nothing reinforces one’s inadequacy better than the cold front of indifference.
